“Splendore” sparkling Muscat of Colle Moro wins the gold medal at the international competition “Muscats du Monde” in France.

The 11th “Muscats of the world” International competition has been organized by Forum Oenologie and has just ended in Frontignan-La Peyrade, in the south-west of France, one of the most important region of the world for Muscat production. The 2010 “Splendore” sparkling Muscat of Colle Moro wine cellar won one of the three gold medals given to Italy, out of a total of 25.

This is the second success achieved by the wine cellar of Chieti after the gold medal won last April on the occasion of Vinitaly International competition. The oenologist Vincenzo Marchioli explains that “Splendore” sparkling wine derives from the combination of two native grape varieties growing in our partners’ vineyard: the Frisa Muscat, similar to Canelli white Muscat but still different, and the buckwheat Muscat, a local biotype of yellow Muscat. The uniqueness of this wine is the fragrant scent recalling fresh Muscat grapes with its wide range of aromatic nuances. To preserve this freshness, the partially fermented must is kept in a low-temperature cell until froth is formed, according to the Italian method. The second natural fermentation in autoclave is immediately followed by the bottling. The success that this wine has reached among the general public is consistent with the extremely positive critics’ opinions. We have almost run out this wine provisions and everybody is waiting for the new production that, unfortunately, will be available not before Christmas. Our land has always had the vocation for Muscat production, but it has been rediscovered only in recent times, thanks to the increase of Muscat wine market demand. “Splendore” is mainly a dessert wine but it can be combined also with other dishes. This is a low-alcohol wine, so you can enjoy it without worrying too much about the alcohol test.
